Mermaid on Land was created during my yearly winter soul saving art week in 2022. Every year I take at least 1 week to tune out the world and dive into my mind and my art. During this time, I use art as a type of movement meditation that quiets my mind of the outside world enough to allow me to be super introspective. The more complicated the project, the deeper into my thoughts and feelings I can go.

This winter was particularly rough, marking the end of many things and people I thought would be in my life for many years to come. At times I felt like a giant storm was drowning me, a hurricane of emotion burying me deep below its waves. By the end of this project, my mind and soul were ready to climb out of those depths and find new paths for the future. 

This piece started as a box of tiny scraps. It was built on an adjustable dress form set at: Bust-41, Waist-34, Hips-44 (which is also the size of my body in the outdoor pics). The dress is slightly adjustable, and offers quite a bit of stretch for a larger body. It could also be tailored down to fit a slightly smaller body, but is designed for a very curvy person.

Materials

TreeShine Design items are handmade by Tree with eco-friendly materials. All new materials used for clothes are made from organic cotton blends. Upcycled items are made from reclaimed materials finding new life instead of being dumped in a landfill.

Care Instructions

To get the best life out of your clothes, you must first take care of yourself. Handwashing in cold water and air drying is best for our clothes and best for the planet, but sometimes the added stress isn't best for us or our families.

All TreeShine clothing can be machine washed on cold and tumbled dry on low to medium heat.

Never use bleach. Mend when needed. Give, donate, trade, or upcycle, but please don't throw it away.

Sizing Info

  • What size do I need?

    Our organic cotton/ bamboo/ spandex jersey fabric is oh so soft, super stretchy, and accommodating. This allows us to create a size chart with a little wiggle room for bodies that change shape from time to time. In general, you will want to order a size where your body would be in the middle of the range.

    When selecting a top size, pay most attention to your bust measurement. For bottoms, make sure those hips will fit!
